What can I say, I adore Chalk and Notch patterns. When I first saw Gabriela’s dress as part of her Wanderlust Blog tour post, i instantly fell in love and started nagging, when will you release this pattern pretty please, I need this heheh so when she called for testers I HAD to apply.
The dress is not only quick to sew but the result is so dreamy! Seriously, every dress created by every tester was utterly stunning, you simply cannot go wrong. Emi from Just add Fabric and I actually joked about calling this a unicorn dress, because no matter what fabric choice you chose, the dress always turn out beautifully, see for yourself…

What I love about the Cascade maxi is the fact that it’s a simple yet elegant dress with its bias cut creating a beautiful flow and drape that cascades into a lovely train at the back.

This dress does consume a lot of fabric but oh, it’s so worth it!!! My daughter thinks the dress is perfection (yep .. she said “this dress is perfect”) and she feels like a princess in it.
I knew the dress was a winner since she:
- refuse the take the dress off
- request a second dress and even picked the fabric (the flamingo one) and;
- does not require any bribes to model it
She is a massive maxi fan so when I made the first dress for her in View B – with the contrast band she was so delighted she couldn’t stop twirling and posing …

… however some of her poses were a bit questionable (I’m not sure lying on a yoga mat is very attractive LOL) or wearing a flamingo headband with the flamingo dress goes … hmm might be a bit too much darling???
How about we keep it simple … sometimes, less is more which is what this dress is all about.
The little details such as the box pleat on the front bodice along with the cross over straps on the back are nice touches that complements the overall sophisticated elegance of the dress.
Truly, this is a must have pattern and it comes in sizes 2 to 12 years! We love it so much we are planning on a few more especially with summer upon us (here in Australia) … now if only there was a lady’s version … hint hint Gabriela …
The pattern is currently on sale for its release till Sunday 25th September at 25% off and you can get it from here at Chalk and Notch website or here at Chalk and Notch etsy so don’t delay and happy sewing!
She for sure needs to make a few of her patterns in womens sizing! Those flamingos are totally killing me. I love them!

I know doesn’t it. Now I keep thinking every fabric would look good as a cascade maxi.
