Here comes the Doris skirt

Wow wow wow, was my first impression when I saw the testing call for the Doris skirt! I knew straight away I had to apply. I love the fitted silhouette style and geometric angles  (which is a common feature of Elles’s Misusu patterns) and I know my  little miss will too (and of course she did… can you tell???) IMG20180324161737I’ve tested twice before for Elles with the Louise Sweater (you can see the pic here) and the Origiami Sweater (pic here) and know how thorough she is with her testing. Sometimes it takes weeks to perfect the pattern as you would have read here but that’s what makes the pattern worthwhile. Getting the fit right is very important and we went through several versions to do this! Due to the fitted silhouette shape, you may need to blend sizes.  IMG20180324161702_1When I was testing this, I had the hardest time deciding on the fabric combination because you can colour block any which way you want, the possibilities are boundless.  In the end, I went for the most foolproof, practical, easy to match and never out of style ‘black and white’ french terry grid from Orinoco Designs  and jazzed it up with glitter rust coloured ribbing for a pop of colour to the waistband and pocket band (there is the option to sew the pocket without a band too).  IMG20180324161814The intention was to also add rust coloured pipping to accentuate the featured diagonal side seams but I ran out (not to worry, I’ve since bought more) so I decided to use solid black for the pockets and bottom band to break up the grid lines. Note – there is the option to make the skirt without a bottom band too. In addition, there is also the option to sew a back yoke if you prefer. For mine, I made it with the centre split seam.  IMG20180324161815 (2)Now aside from the beautiful aesthetic design, the Doris skirt is very economical making it a great project for fabric scraps so i say, this pattern is a win win! Don’t you?

To celebrate the release of this trendy skirt, the pattern will be on sale till April 15. Also make sure you keep an eye out on Misusu patterns Facebook and Instagram pages for a special SURPRISE!
